Idera aims to disrupt pricing practices for backup software

Idera rolled its R1Soft backup/recovery division into the corporate fold this year, and discontinued the R1Soft name and branding. (Idera acquired R1Soft in late 2007.) The latest version of its backup software has a number of enhancements for physical and virtual server backup, but we think the most important change is rock-bottom pricing of $200 per server, or $20 per VM, regardless of capacity or the number of CPUs or sockets. Idera alone can’t force the big players to lower their prices, but together with low prices and aggressive discounting from a number of other small vendors, the company could eventually help make data protection more affordable.

R1Soft Increases CDP Compatibility with InterWorx Integration

R1Soft, developer of Continuous Data Protection (CDP) software for Linux and Windows, today announced the successful integration of CDP with the dedicated server web hosting control panel InterWorx. With the help of the InterWorx team, R1Soft can now provide an add-on integration module for InterWorx that allows administrators to authorize shared hosting user access through InterWorx’s administrative panel ‘Nodeworx.’ When users’ have authorized access, a direct link will automatically log in users in order to view and restore backups.
