Ahsay vs CloudBerry Managed Backup
In this article we’ll compare Ahsay backup solutions and CloudBerry Managed Backup Service. Both solutions are designed for Managed Service Providers and IT departments.
Destination
To use Ahsay backup you need to have a server on your side. Install Ahsay Offsite Backup Server on it, and then use Ahsay Online Backup Manager to backup final customer’s servers and A-click Backup for laptops, desktop backups. Wait. What if something will happen with your Offsite Backup server? All the data will be lost. Let’s use Ahsay Replication server to replicate all the data over there. To sum up you’ll have to buy at least two servers on your side, 4 software packages from Ahsay and you’re a cloud backup provider. Unlike Ahsay, CloudBerry Managed Backup Service allows you to use most robust and cost-effective public cloud storage: Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, and Windows Azure.
Cost
Let’s assume you’re willing to become an MSP. And your customer is a small organization willing to backup 20 computers with 1 Exchange server and 1 SQL server. We will split the final cost in two: software and hardware cost.
Software Cost
Let’s count all the pieces together: 1 Ashay Offsite Backup Server license + 1 Ashay replication Server license + (20 * Ashay A-Click Backup license) + (2* Ashay Online Backup Manager license) + (20 * Ashay Exchange Mailbox Backup license) = 200$ + 100$ + (20 * 40$) + (2 * 525$) + (20 * 8$) = 2310$. Unlike Ashay, CloudBerry Managed Backup costs 499.99$ for 20 desktops + 59.99 for one SQL license + 69.99 for Exchange License = 630$. Given calculation clarifies that Ashay software will be almost 4 times more expensive than CloudBerry Managed backup. By the way, for existing example white-labeling for Ashay will cost you additional 500$ while for CloudBerry Lab it would be free of charge.
Hardware Cost
If you want to become a backup service provider with Ashay you also need to buy at least two expensive servers + maintenance. One for being a primary backup server and another one to become a replicated copy of the first one. Theoretically, you can use only one, but this is very unreliable solution for a backup service provider: you might lose all the clients’ data at once. Unlike this approach, with CloudBerry Managed Backup one shouldn’t be worried about hardware at all and use the most powerful and cost-efficient cloud storages: Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier and Windows Azure. If you’re a Microsoft Partner, then you can get 1.5 TB of cloud storage for free. If you need more space it will cost as low as 0.095$ for GB/month.
Security
Both solutions offer military grade encryption of customer’s data. However, how this security can be verified from the point of view of the final user? With Ashay solution it’s simply not possible, while with CloudBerry Lab final user can be granted access to his data, thus, may supervision the actual encryption of his files in the public cloud storage.
Final word
Basing on the data above like cost, security and usage of public cloud, we believe that Cloudberry Managed Backup provides a really different user experience. However, we encourage everyone to make their own decision after deep-dive in the products settings, techniques and policies.
