Idera rolled its R1Soft backup/recovery division into the corporate fold this year, and discontinued the R1Soft name and branding. (Idera acquired R1Soft in late 2007.) The latest version of its backup software has a number of enhancements for physical and virtual server backup, but we think the most important change is rock-bottom pricing of $200 per server, or $20 per VM, regardless of capacity or the number of CPUs or sockets. Idera alone can’t force the big players to lower their prices, but together with low prices and aggressive discounting from a number of other small vendors, the company could eventually help make data protection more affordable.Details:
